RHINOPLASTY

Rhinoplasty, commonly known as “nose job”or nose reshaping surgery is a surgical procedure used to correct and reconstruct the form, restoring the function and enhancing the facial harmony. Various problems of the nose like hump, brad base, wide bulky tip, deviations, depressed bridge, wide nostrils etc. can be corrected. The goal is to create a beautiful and symmetric nose in harmony with face.

Who is a good candidate for it?
Any person who is medically fit, non-smoker, without any ophthalmological problems and has realistic expectations can undergo this procedure.

Anesthesia- General anesthesia is safe and preferred.

Incision- There are two ways to do rhinoplasty-open and closed.

Closed technique- Incision is below the lower lateral cartilages,inside the nostrils and is invisible.

Open techniques- The incision is at the columella along with the infracartilagenous incisions.

Recovery and results-
Some swelling, bruising, pain is common and will recover in few days. Nose may be kept packed for few hours after surgery. Nasal splint is applied for 6-8 days. External stitches will be removed after 8 days.
Final results may be seen in 3-6 months

Complications can occur but rare-
• Anaesthesia risks
• Infection
• Poor wound healing or scarring
• Change in skin sensation (numbness or pain)
• Nasal septal perforation (a hole in the nasal septum) is rare. Additional surgical treatment may be necessary to repair the septum but it may be impossible to correct this complication
• Difficulty breathing
• Unsatisfactory nasal appearance
• Skin discoloration and swelling and necrosis
• Possibility of revision surgery
